David Schafer

David Schafer is a visual artist who works in multiple forms of production, including sculpture, sound, performance, and works on paper. His work is concerned with the structure, translation, and intelligibility of language, and the combining of sculpture, sound, and text. His discursive projects embody subjects from cultural memory that are both theoretical and idiosyncratic. Schafer has shown nationally and internationall
and has executed numerous public projects. His most recent solo exhibitions include Studio10, Bushwick, Samuel Freeman Gallery, and Diane Rosenstein Gallery in Los Angeles, CA.

Schafer performs and produces sound works as DSE. This is a platform for the production and disseminati of electronic noise, noise-actions, and processed recordings. Utilizing analogue and digital source material and processing techniques, DSE emphasizes an attack on the structural authority and intelligibility of langu
and sonic/spatial orientation. DSE has performed at L.A.C.E., Human Resources, Samuel Freeman, Contro Room, David Kordansky in Los Angeles, and The Whitney Museum, Roulette, Silent Barn, and Printed Matt in NY. Schafer is currently teaching at Art Center College of Design and at University of Southern California. He has been living and working in Los Angeles since 2012.
