AS WITH HIS PARALLEL AND OVERLAPPING CAREERS IN VISUAL ART, ART WRITING, AND CURATION, DOUG HARVEY’S ACTIVITIES IN SOUND DISREGARD CATEGORIES AND SPECIALIZATION IN FAVOR OF A BROAD INCLUSIVENESS THAT ENCOMPASSES SOLO RECORDINGS, PERFORMANCES, ARTIFACTS (SOUND SCULPTURE, VISUAL SCORES, ETC.), AND INSTALLATIONS. HIS SOLO WORK BEGAN IN HIS TEEN YEARS WITH TAPE LOOP EXPERIMENTS AND RANGES FROM MUSIQUE CONCRETE TO SOUNDSCAPE RECORDINGS; FROM NOISE DRONES TO DIY SHOWTUNES, FROM INFINITELY SHIFTING ENVIRONMENTS OF CAREFULLY EDITED SOUND LOOPS TO SOLO ELECTRIC GUITAR IMPROVISATIONS.

HARVEY’S COLLABORATIONS WITH GROUPS INCLUDE MANNLICHER CARCANO, F, SPIRIT GIRLS, THE CHARLES RAY EXPERIENCE AND FIREWORKS. HE HAS COLLABORATED ON SOUND WORKS WITH INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS LIKE STEVE RODEN, MARNIE WEBER, JIM SHAW, NATE LOWMAN, CHRISTIAN CUMMINGS, LAURIE STEELINK, RICK POTTS, SEAN DUFFY, AND OTHERS, AND HAS CURATED NUMEROUS EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC/SOUND ART COMPILATIONS AS CASSETTES, CDS (“THE NEW NOW SOUNDS OF TODAY! SONGPOEMS BY TWENTY-ONE CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS” ART ISSUES PRESS, 2000), ONLINE DIGITAL FILES, AND TELEPHONE MESSAGES (“THE PATTER OF TINY BRAINS” – A 2012 ALL CHILDREN’S AUDIO PROGRAM FOR 323 PROJECTS).
