Kristy Baltezore

“My work exposes hidden stereotypes and subconsciously held social and cultural beliefs by examining consumer objects, packaging, and detritus. Currently, I am focused on examining Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the food pyramid, and my interests in food politics, food production, foodyism, and in turn, lack of food, hunger, and homelessness. The key action of completion my recent works is eating.

“I am currently in the graduate studies in Public Practice at Otis College of Art, where I also Mentor undergraduate students in two classes (Urban Farming in Los Angeles and Nurturing Identity and Community) taught by Cultural Anthropologist, Claudia Hernandez-Romero.

“In addition to my artistic practice, I own and run a small organic bulk foods business called Rice & Beans at area Farmer’s Markets, am an avid cyclist and a member of the Echo Park Time Bank.”
